Ore Factory Squad Oil Factory Layout: A Four-Zone Plan
Use a simple four-zone oil layout for the Tanker lane, Oil Tank, Refinery, Processor, and existing lines. It is an editorial starting plan, not a measured best ratio.
Quick answer
Use four zones: Tanker arrival and Oil Tank, Oil Refinery, Oil Processor, and product handoff to existing lines. Keep the Tanker service path clear and keep each zone easy to inspect. v1.1.1 is the current hotfix, so retest the Tanker-to-Tank handoff before treating an old route as a permanent layout rule. This is OreFactoryGuide's editorial starting plan for a tight factory, not an official or measured best layout.

The four zones
| Zone | Put here | Why it stays separate |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Arrival and storage | Tanker access and Oil Tank | lets you see whether the problem is a vehicle handoff or factory processing |
| 2. First processing | Oil Refinery | gives Fuel and Bitumen their own visible checkpoint |
| 3. Later processing | Oil Processor | keeps later product choices from blocking the first Crude Oil test |
| 4. Product handoff | routes back to existing production, storage, contracts, or sale systems | preserves room to decide a real destination for each product |
The division makes debugging easier because each handoff has a clear source and destination. It is not a promise about fixed belt direction, machine spacing, capacities, or output rate.
Build in this order
- Leave a practical approach for the Tanker before you place machines around it.
- Put the Oil Tank close enough to inspect the unload state.
- Add one Oil Refinery and prove its first visible output.
- Add the Oil Processor only for the next named product you actually need.
- Route that product into an existing line only after the local oil step is working.
This order avoids a common planning trap: packing every possible product into one enclosed room before any single oil handoff is proven.
When the factory feels too small
Shrink the ambition before you expand the footprint. Keep one product branch working, leave the vehicle and maintenance side accessible, and postpone later products that do not solve the current task. The official update adds a new factory size with four storage output sockets, but it does not make that upgrade the right next choice for every save. Choose it only when confirmed space or output access is the real blocker.

Choose the next specific fix
If the Tanker cannot unload, use the Tanker Truck and Oil Tank guide. If you are not sure which machine should receive the next material, use Oil Refinery and Oil Processor explained. If a product needs a next destination, open the oil products reference. For an existing generic plant layout, see the modular factory layout guide.
Sources
The official Masters of Oil announcement is the source for the new oil systems, reconnection to existing production lines, and factory-size expansion. The v1.1.1 hotfix is the current boundary for Tanker-to-Oil-Tank transfer timing. The Steam discussion Ore Factory Squad - Solo first playthrough feedback was used only to identify a player's oil-product space problem; it is not proof of a universal footprint or best layout. Neither announcement publishes a universal oil layout, so the four-zone plan above is explicitly editorial.
